My Opening Meme

  1. I am reading from Eastern Oregon. There are less trees in this part of the state.
  2. I not looking forward to reading anything in particular. I plan to grab a short book from my stack on the shelf or a free one off my kindle.
  3. It is almost 6 am here. We start at 5. I'm getting a late start. I am not hungry yet. I do plan on making ceviche though.
  4. I'm a mom and I do this readathon for me. I like reading all 24 hours with cheering thrown in. I asked my family to read with me for an hour this morning. We will see how that goes. I love reading, sewing, and watching TV and movies. I just went back to school and I have homework do tonight. I will have to take time to do that.
  5. This is my 6th time participating. I love it. I plan to continue doing it as long as they keep it going. I will be sleeping more this time around and doing homework.
My New Goals

  1. Read a total of 15 hours
  2. 700 pages
  3. Visit 30 blogs and maybe check out twitter
I think I am coming down with something. I have slept a lot today. I hope everyone is having a good time

Hour 12
Pages Read: 221

Mid Event Survey
  1. I am getting ready to start reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
  2. I have finished 1. The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis
  3. I think I may work on all the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis

  5. I was surprised this time around at the number of challenges involving Twitter and Instagram.
I had many unexpected interruptions. I helped with chemistry homework, I did my own homework, I fixed hair for homecoming, and I was just plain wore out from the week. I didn't get to read as much as I would have liked but, I did enjoy the time I did.

  1. The most daunting hours were 1-4 and 20-24. I was tired and I
    slept.

Preparing For A 24 Hour Read-A-Thon

When a readathon is approaching I like to make an initial  post. In the post I mention what I'm doing, what I'm signing up for and how I prepare. I'll give the details of the readathon and where it can be found. The more who sign up the merrier.  I also like to post my goals. After this initial post is done then I will sign up. If you can't tell this is my first post. I thought it should be instructional. That way it will help me put straight in my mind what I need to do.

Anyway I am going to be signing up for my all time favorite read-a-thon. This is the first one I ever did and it is my opinion the best; Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon.  This readathon is held over a 24 hour period. You can read as much or as little as you want in that period. Every hour there is challenges and prize giveaways. There are cheerleaders that will cheer you along throughout the day. If you would like to participate you can sign up HERE.  This readathon will be held October 17. People around the world participate in this readathon. If you would like to find your start time click HERE.

I like planning what I will be reading. I usually pick books that I haven't started. They can be rereads but, I like to start the books fresh. A lot of the participants keep track of the number of pages read during the readathon. I am one of them and if I start a book fresh it is easier to keep track. Listening to books is acceptable and I will do that if I get tired or want to do something besides sit and read.

Here are a few of the books I have added to my reading pile.

This pile will most likely grow
I like having a huge assortment to choose from; books I've read, ones I haven't read, long, short, series, stand-alones and an assortment of genres. I never know what I will feel like reading when the readathon starts. I chose to choose books this time that I own.

I also like to have food ready. I usually choose to have finger food on hand. I don't drink pop usually so mountain dew has the kick I need stay awake. It has also become a personal tradition to make ceviche the night before to have the day of the readathon. I plan on posting the picture later.

After all my participation I like to get a full nights sleep. I have to wake up early. My start time is 5 am.

My Goals

  1. Stay awake the full 24 hours. I have accomplished this 4 out of 5 times. I was sick the last time.
  2. Read 1000 pages. My first time I broke a thousand pages and haven't done it since. I would like to try again.
  3. Visit 50 blogs. I don't know if I will be cheering but, I do plan on visiting other sites.
I really hope you can find the time to join in the fun. I hope to see you there.
