Blooms Day Run

I will be headed to Spokane Washington this weekend. A bunch of my family decided they would like to do the Blooms Day race. I will be walking with my eight year old. I hope I will be able to make it up doomsday hill.  The last time I did this race was in 2001. I was in a little better shape. I got last weekend to read all day. The kids picked this for this weekend.  Hopefully I survive.

My Last Dewey Post

Well I stayed up the whole 24 hours. On Hour 23 I kept dosing with the book in my hand. I Think I averaged 35-45 minutes of reading every hour.  As the time went by I read more and did less of the challenge. I think I was to tired to think and I was trying to get through the last book. I really enjoyed myself and I plan on doing it again. Next time though I will have my camera handy. These are the books I finished. I put them in order of which one I liked the most to least.

Missing You (1-800-Where-R-You, #5)The Indian in the Cupboard  The Great Mom Swap  Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2)

I read a total of 1075 pages. When I compete again my goal will be 1100.

Dewey 24 Hour Readathon has come to an end

  1. Which hour was most daunting for you?  The last Hour and a half
  2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? Small books are the best way to go
  3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? Letting people know a camera handy would be nice.
  4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? First time participating. I liked it.
  5. How many books did you read? 4
  6. What were the names of the books you read? The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks, The Great Mom Swap by Betsy Haynes, Missing You by Meg Cabot and Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
  7. Which book did you enjoy most? Missing You by Meg Cabot
  8. Which did you enjoy least? Beautiful Darkness
  9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders? Not really
  10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?  Yes I would like to do it again. I would be a reader
Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2)  I finished this book in the last hour. I will say it wasn't my favorite. I also know I will never read a big book toward the end of the challenge.

Last Stretch of the Dewey Readathon

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2)Hour 17 On page 137.  I'm still on sure of this book.

Hour 18 On page 194. I'm really tired. I don't know how much longer I can keep going. It is 10:27pm here. I think I might have to crack open my last Mountain Dew. I don't know what I'll do if it doesn't get me through the next few hours. Beautiful Darkness isn't a terrible book, it just takes so long to get to the meat of the story. I think being sleepy makes me a little more impatient. Well I'm headed to the fridge and back to reading.

Hour 19   Page 169. I'm still up and reading. I haven't cracked my last mountain dew. I will be though pretty soon. The book is getting a little bit more interesting. This is really good, otherwise I wouldn't be able to keep my eyes open.  I hope I am able to finish this book before the end of the Readathon.

Hour 20 Page 272
Hour 21 Page 332  I'm feeling a little more awake. It is 1:20am right now. My mind is blank. I guess I'm not as awake as I thought.
Hour 22 Page 377  It looks like I will finish reading this book just as the readathon comes to an end.
Hour 23  Page 429.  The book is getting close to ending. I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. it is 3:10 in the morning.
Hour 24  I am just finishing the very last of this book.

Half way though the Dewey readathon

Missing You (1-800-Where-R-You, #5)Hour 13  I am in the process of finishing this book. It has had my emotions rising and falling. I am on page 225.  I am in a hurry to get back to it.  bye
Challenge

Hour 14 I finished reading missing you. I thought I would take a little time look around on other blogs. I am enjoying this readathon and already wish the next one wasn't so far away. I haven't decided what I will read next. I'm debating between two books.  One is short and I think I will enjoy it.  The other is long and I have no idea if I will like it.  Anyway I hope everyone is having fun.

Challenge  Quote from a book. I found this one on the web and really liked it. I'm sure I read the book but a long time ago.

"Promise me you'll always remember: you're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." A.A. Milne, Winne the Pooh

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2) Hour 15  I'm on page 58.  I thought I would start a longer book and save the shorter book, I want to read, for later.  I don't know if I like it yet will see after then next few hours.  Hope everyone is still having fun.

Hour16  I'm on page 97. I think the book is drawn out and kind of boring.

Challenge Turn the page.
I turned the page to 32 of Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and this is what I got.

"I would rather read than __catch my breath__ any day!"

24 Hour Read a Thon

The Indian in the Cupboard Hour 1  I started reading. The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks.

Hour 2 I am on page 49.  I like it so far.
Challenge:

Hour 3-I'm on page 95. I'm averaging 40 minutes of reading each hour. The book is starting to get interesting. I read it so long ago, I don't remember much. I'm anxious to see what happens next. Enjoy your reading.

Challenge   Choose a food based on the book we are reading. In the book they have a campfire. I would cook Carne Asada on a stick, beans in a dutch oven and smores for desert.

Hour 4-I'm on page 142. It's getting good and I'm coming to the end pretty quickly. It's taking me longer to read than I expected. I'm taking up a lot of time playing on the computer. I'm not reading nearly as much.

Challenge has a Rename the book your reading. I would rename the book  Indian Vs Giants.

Hour 5-I just finished reading the book all 197 pages. It was really good and the time flew by as I read it. I think I have the second one somewhere in my house I might have to dig around and look for it. I'm going to take some time and work on a few challenges.  I hope everyone is having a good time.

 Challenge-Self Portrait

As you can see. I can't draw, especially on the computer. I had fun trying though.

Hour 6  I started reading The Great Mom Swap by Betsy Haynes. I am on page 27.

 The Great Mom Swap
Challenge A book puzzle.
  Can you guess the book?
I know not to difficult. I was anxious to get back to my book.

Hour 7 I'm on page 59 of The Great Mom Swap. I can see myself as one of the mom's in the book. I have a daughter the same age as the main characters. I hope my daughter see's me a little better than these girl's see their mom.

Challenge Book covers you like a dislike for the same book.  I chose The Indian in the Cupboard.
The Indian in the Cupboard I don't care for this cover. It looks like an old boring book and I am a reader that judges a book by it's cover.

The Indian in the Cupboard  This cover really stands out. I like it the best of all I found. I would pick this one up off a shelf. I would like Ultraviolet if I win.

Hour 8  I'm still reading The Great Mom Swap. I'm not getting very far. I'm on page 93.
Challenge

Hour 9 I'm almost finished reading The Great Mom Swap. I'm on page133. I'm feeling really tired all of a sudden.  I'm might have to drink some caffeine.

Challenge  Yoga poses
I tried all the pictured poses.  My favorite was the corpse pose. I think I could have done it for a very long time. I only did yoga for 5 minutes. I only have 15 pages left in my book. I want to get back.

Missing You (1-800-Where-R-You, #5)  Hour 10  I am now read Missing you by Meg Cabot. I am on page 39.
Challenge

Hour 11 I am on page108. This book is the best of the series so far. I have already cried, laughed out loud and gotten really angry. I headed to read and take a bath. Talk later.

Getting Ready to Start

I have twelve minutes to go.  I'm still super excited to start reading for this read-a-thon.  It's a early start for me and I had trouble falling asleep. My mind just wouldn't shut off. I kept thinking about what I would read, what I wanted to post, if I have enough food on hand, and it I would be able to stay up the whole time.  Anyway as we get started I thought I would start with a book I read in grade school.

The Indian in the Cupboard I haven't read it since. I don't even remember if I liked it. Well I have five minutes to go. I'm gonna check out some other blogs. Have fun!

My Reading List

I'm in the process of planning what I will be reading for Dewey's Read-a-Thon. I generally have 15-20 books on hand from the library.  Books I really want to read or books I am using to complete the Seasonal Reading Challenge that I am now apart of. I have downloaded some books to my nook and my children have picked a few out. I don't have any right now that I'm dying to read.  I think it will depend how I feel on Saturday morning to see how I will start off. I am having a super busy week. I hope it doesn't affect my ability to stay up the whole time.

Here are a few I have right now.

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2) The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1)Summer Knight (The Dresden Files, #4) Montana Sky Wringer

Dewey's 24hr Read-a-Thon

24read_lighter
I am excited and scared. This will be my first ever 24 hour read. I don't know what to expect.  My family thinks I'm out of my mind. They don't understand why I would want to read for that long. My husband may think it's crazy but, he is behind me. He will be taking the kids out to go do something.  This will help with most distractions. I will not be breaking up fights, making meals, or answering any small question my four children may come up with. I am starting to gather all the books I plan to have at my side. I am contemplating what kind of snacks. I will be getting up early and starting at 5am. I can't wait!  I hope I see you there.

Starting a Blog

This is my first post. I have wanted to start a blog for a long time. I always found a reason to put it off. I'm making time to do it now. I plan to have book reviews, recipes and anything else that interest me and hopefully you to.
