Well life has been busy and I haven't participated in any readathons for 3 years. I have missed it. I can't wait to get started. Start times very from where you are participating from. Here on the west part of the states we start at 5 am April 25. If you are interested in participating go to 24hourreadathon.com.world4annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817404160839793407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-906347892149692059.post-88533173535921197552017-10-21T05:59:00.000-07:002017-10-21T20:07:57.353-07:00Goals and UpdatesMy Goals for the Dewey 24 Hour Read a Thon.

Read 600 pages

Participate in half of the mini Challenges

Stay awake 22 of the 24 hours

Visit 50 sites

5:54 am- The RAT has been going for almost an hour. It starts at 5 am for my part of the country. It is a little early, but I think it makes it easier to stay awake. I still have not read. I have been working on my posts, yawning, and thinking about my book recommendation for the last 10 years.

I hope everyone is enjoying themselves.

Mid-Event Survey<span style="background-color: white; color: #444340; font-family: "source sans pro" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 28.8px;">:
It has been slow going, I am not done yet. I have had a lot of distractions. I am looking forward to finishing it and starting the next in the series, Messenger. I had to take my husband to town and help pick out a suit. I enjoyed spending the time with him. I am surprised at how little I have read.

8:01pm-Hour 16 just started. I just finished Gathering Blue. I went to town, went shopping, and had sushi before returning home. I have participated in most challenges, but I haven't visited that many sites. I drank half a 20oz bottle of Mtn Dew. I don't drink caffeine, so I hope I can sleep when the time comes.

How are you doing?

Eastern Oregon

I live in Eastern Oregon, in a small farming community. My house is located next to a mint field. When they cut it smells amazing.

I am looking forward to reading the Giver series by Lois Lowry. I didn't read it in school like all my friends and family. It has been on my TBR for a very long time. I read the first book a few days ago and plan to read the rest this RAT(as much as I can anyways).

I am looking forward to eating sushi. I have to go to town part way through and my husband was going to take me out to eat.

I work in a small grocery store. It helps me get out of the house and interact with others. I'm married and have 4 children. I have tried talking them into participating. They all think I am crazy.

I have been participating since April 2013. The last few have been plagued with interruptions. I thought I had taken care of it for this one. I was going to be able to stick to the house and ignore everything and everyone. I just found out on Thursday, I will have to leave and take care of some stuff in town. I already plan on getting a hotel room out of town for two nights next time. I don't really think that is possible, but it really would be nice and I am going to look into it. I don't think I will be doing anything different. I will read as much as possible and participate in as many mini challenges as I feel up to.world4annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817404160839793407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-906347892149692059.post-65293243134946051052017-10-11T15:56:00.003-07:002017-10-11T15:56:45.664-07:00New LookWell for those that may notice I have changed the way my blog looks. I don't know that I like it any better, however I do like that it is not black anymore. I haven't used this blog for anything other then Dewey's 24 hour readathon. My favorite challenge. I use this challenge as a way to get away from everything and devote the day to me. I am of course signing up and if you are interested check it out and join in. The challenge includes reading, mini challenges, chances to win prizes, and communication with like minded individuals. I hope you participate as well.world4annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817404160839793407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-906347892149692059.post-18388670455878569282017-04-30T05:09:00.000-07:002017-04-30T05:09:22.682-07:002017 Closing MemeWell all good things must come to an end.

Which hour did you find the most daunting? the first and last. I fell asleep in both.

Suggest books? Anything you love and favorite authors,.

Suggestions for the readathon? No, it went amazing

What went well? Everything

How many books did I read? I finished one and have only pages left on another

Name books read? Carry me Down and Caught in the Act

Which book was better? Caught in the Act.

What am I reading right now? I am listening to Carry Me Down by M.J. Hyland. I thought I would be done by now, but I have had unexpected distractions and I may have fallen asleep in the beginning.

How many books have I read? I have listened to about 2 hours of the above book and I read 5 pages of another.

What book am I looking forward to? I am just looking forward to sitting down and reading. I am tired of listening to a book. However, I am getting some much needed cleaning done in my house.

Have I had any interruptions? Yes, I have had to run my husband and kids places. I had unexpected visitors and I have handled it really well. I am using today as a day to relax and that is what I have done. Well I have cleaned, but it is being done very slowly.

What has surprised me so far? I have really loved all of the challenges and I love the emphases on donating.

Draw a book cover from memory. I tried to think of one that would be fairly easy. I thought of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Obviously I forgot somethings. I also really hated the cover and refused to read it because the cover was ugly. Yes, I judge a book by it's cover. I did eventually read it and I enjoyed it.world4annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817404160839793407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-906347892149692059.post-90594055631786536322017-04-29T05:35:00.000-07:002017-04-29T05:35:45.375-07:00April 2017 Readathon Opening MemeWell the readathon has officially started.

Where am I? I am in Eastern Oregon, not to be confused with the west. We have a lot less trees and rain. Although we do have a lot of wind.

What am I looking forward to reading? I have had a hectic month, well year. I am just looking forward to getting to sit down and read. Although, I am looking forward to rereading Dragonquest by Anne McCaffrey.

What do I look forward to eating? It is so early in the morning, nothing sounds good.

Tell a little about myself. I like to read. I would like to decorate my home like a library that just happens to have a home in it. I am sick of unpacking and I hate to clean.

Have I participated before and what will I do different? I have participated before. I have been doing this for a few years. It is to early to say exactly when. I plan on just laying back and participating when I feel like it. I don't have any defined goals, which is different. I will tell you I do miss the way we signed up before and could see everyone participating. I liked to visit the other blogs before the event.

I didn't think I would be able to participate in my favorite reading activity (Dewey's 24 Hour Read-A-Thon), but I just found out I will be able to after all. I can hardly contain my excitement. It is the best 24 hours spent blogging, tweeting, playing games and reading. I will have to work 5 hours, however I may be able to listen to a book part of the time. I believe this will be my eighth time participating. I love it because, people all over the world get to gether to read, play games, and enjoy each others company.

I didn't have much time to put this post togther. So, I am going to get started.

Opening Meme

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
<span style="background-color: white; color: #141412; font-family: "source sans pro" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 24px;">

<span style="font-family: "source sans pro" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 24px;">I am reading from Easter Oregon. It is dryer here and we have less trees.
<span 24px="" font-family:="" helvetica="" line-height:="" pro="" quot="" sans-serif="" sans="" source="">

<span style="background-color: white; color: #141412; font-family: "source sans pro" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 24px;">

<span 24px="" font-family:="" helvetica="" line-height:="" pro="" quot="" sans-serif="" sans="" source="">I really don't have one I am dying to read right now. It could be because, I am tired. It is 5am here.

<span 24px="" font-family:="" helvetica="" line-height:="" pro="" quot="" sans-serif="" sans="" source="">3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Ceviche. It has become a got to for me for this read-a-thon.

<span 24px="" font-family:="" helvetica="" line-height:="" pro="" quot="" sans-serif="" sans="" source="">4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I just bought a house. I am in the middle of renevating it. The house I'm in still is a disaster. There are boxes everywhere. I love to read that is why I am participating even though I really should have skipped this time. However, I haven't missed one since I first started in 2013. I have 4 kids, 3 dogs, 1 husband, 1 cat, 1 rabbit, 1 snake, and 1 turtle. I hope everyone is having fun.

<span 24px="" font-family:="" helvetica="" line-height:="" pro="" quot="" sans-serif="" sans="" source="" style1="">5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? <span 24px="" font-family:="" helvetica="" line-height:="" pro="" quot="" sans-serif="" sans="" source="">I will not be spening my sole time reading and cheering people on today. Unfortunatly I will be working on my new house, packing the old and cleaning. I hate cleaning. My Opening Meme

I am reading from Eastern Oregon. There are less trees in this part of the state.

I not looking forward to reading anything in particular. I plan to grab a short book from my stack on the shelf or a free one off my kindle.

It is almost 6 am here. We start at 5. I'm getting a late start. I am not hungry yet. I do plan on making ceviche though.

I'm a mom and I do this readathon for me. I like reading all 24 hours with cheering thrown in. I asked my family to read with me for an hour this morning. We will see how that goes. I love reading, sewing, and watching TV and movies. I just went back to school and I have homework do tonight. I will have to take time to do that.

This is my 6th time participating. I love it. I plan to continue doing it as long as they keep it going. I will be sleeping more this time around and doing homework.

My New Goals

Read a total of 15 hours

700 pages

Visit 30 blogs and maybe check out twitter

Challenges

I think I am coming down with something. I have slept a lot today. I hope everyone is having a good time
Hour 12
Pages Read: 221

I am getting ready to start reading The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

I have finished 1. The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis

I think I may work on all the Narnia books by C.S. Lewis

I stopped and helped with Chemistry homework. I am resigned to be interrupted most of the readathon. Maybe the interruptions will stop when bedtime arrives.

I was surprised this time around at the number of challenges involving Twitter and Instagram.

I had many unexpected interruptions. I helped with chemistry homework, I did my own homework, I fixed hair for homecoming, and I was just plain wore out from the week. I didn't get to read as much as I would have liked but, I did enjoy the time I did.

Closing Survey

The most daunting hours were 1-4 and 20-24. I was tired and I

slept.

I did enjoy reading the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. They are short books and easy reads.

I don't have a suggestion for improving next year. Although signups seemed kind of late this year.

The cheerleaders were amazing this year

I finished 1 book and started another.

The Magician's Nephew and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

I enjoyed both books

I will participate again. I just plan on being better prepared and kicking everyone out of the house.

In the post I mention what I'm doing, what I'm signing up for and how I prepare. I'll give the details of the readathon and where it can be found. The more who sign up the merrier. I also like to post my goals. After this initial post is done then I will sign up. If you can't tell this is my first post. I thought it should be instructional. That way it will help me put straight in my mind what I need to do.

Anyway I am going to be signing up for my all time favorite read-a-thon. This is the first one I ever did and it is my opinion the best; Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon. This readathon is held over a 24 hour period. You can read as much or as little as you want in that period. Every hour there is challenges and prize giveaways. There are cheerleaders that will cheer you along throughout the day. If you would like to participate you can sign up HERE. This readathon will be held October 17. People around the world participate in this readathon. If you would like to find your start time click HERE.

I like planning what I will be reading. I usually pick books that I haven't started. They can be rereads but, I like to start the books fresh. A lot of the participants keep track of the number of pages read during the readathon. I am one of them and if I start a book fresh it is easier to keep track. Listening to books is acceptable and I will do that if I get tired or want to do something besides sit and read.

Here are a few of the books I have added to my reading pile.

This pile will most likely grow

I like having a huge assortment to choose from; books I've read, ones I haven't read, long, short, series, stand-alones and an assortment of genres. I never know what I will feel like reading when the readathon starts. I chose to choose books this time that I own.

I also like to have food ready. I usually choose to have finger food on hand. I don't drink pop usually so mountain dew has the kick I need stay awake. It has also become a personal tradition to make ceviche the night before to have the day of the readathon. I plan on posting the picture later.

After all my participation I like to get a full nights sleep. I have to wake up early. My start time is 5 am.

My Goals

Stay awake the full 24 hours. I have accomplished this 4 out of 5 times. I was sick the last time.

Read 1000 pages. My first time I broke a thousand pages and haven't done it since. I would like to try again.

Visit 50 blogs. I don't know if I will be cheering but, I do plan on visiting other sites.

I really hope you can find the time to join in the fun. I hope to see you there.

Well my favorite Read-A-Thon has come to an end. I'm a little sad. I don't feel like I got to participate as much as I would have liked. I came down with a cold and it made me tired. I ended up going to sleep and missing the last 4 hours. I usually stay up the whole time. I hate missing anything.

End of Event Meme:

I hope everyone had fun and I hope to see you again in Octoberworld4annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817404160839793407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-906347892149692059.post-68007905243671203362015-04-25T05:02:00.000-07:002015-04-26T00:21:00.312-07:00Dewey's Opening Meme and UpdatesIt's almost time for Dewey to start. I'm a little tired. It's a little before 5am here. I can't seem to put coherent sentences together.

Opening Meme:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? I am reading from Eastern Oregon, USA.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I don't know. I will most likely start with Hunted by Kevin Hearne. I'm about ten pages into it and thought I would finish it.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? I have come down with a cold. Nothing sounds good this morning.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I'm married and have four children. I have to work 3 hours today. It is the only time I will not be participating. I will be taking along a audio book. I might be able to listen to it a little on my short commute.
5) If you participated in the
last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is
your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I might see what's happening on twitter. I have never participated in that way.

Hour 2
Reading: The Runnning Man by Richard Bachman aka Stephen King
Food: Oats and More Cereal
Thoughts: I wasn't planning on reading this book but, I couldn't turn the light on in my bedroom. My husband was still sleeping. So I chose a book I had on my kindle. Liking it so far. It's better than I was expected.
5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? Nothing has surprised me yet. However, we are only half way through

Hour 14
My cold is making me quit. It is a little after midnight here and I just can't keep my eyes open even long enough type out the few words I want to say. If my grammar is atrocious I'm sorry. This is my 5th Dewey and this will be the first time I didn't stay up the whole time. I cheered but, not as much as I would have liked.

Have fun and enjoy all you have to read.
I love it. I get to set aside 24 hours for myself. I use the time to read, blog, read blogs, participate in mini challenges and cheer others on.

As soon as I know the date I mark my calender. I don't let to many things interrupt me. I ignore everything and everyone. My husband and kids know to just let me be. They usually do an activity outside of the house. However, I might have something I can't get out of that will take 8 hours of my time. I plan on taking a audio book with me to listen during the travel time and during any break.

If you would like to join in the fun or learn more Click Here

My Goals

500 Pages (If I have the obligation)

1000 Pages (Without obligation)

Cheer on all assigned blogs 3 times and 10 unassigned once

Participate in 5 Challenges

I love having a lot of books on hand. Here is a few I have on my night stand that I would like to read. However, I will probably choose the smaller of the bunch.
O’Sullivan hasn’t stayed alive for more than two millennia without a
fair bit of Celtic cunning. So when vengeful thunder gods come Norse by
Southwest looking for payback, Atticus, with a little help from the
Navajo trickster god Coyote, lets them think that they’ve chopped up his
body in the Arizona desert.

above a little sleight of paw, and Atticus soon finds that he’s been
duped into battling bloodthirsty desert shapeshifters called

this time, he vows he won’t be fooled again. Famous last words.

My Thoughts

I love all the supporting characters. I can't get enough of Coyote and Oberon. I just don't care to much about Atticus. He's the main character but, I feel like his character is flawed. There is something wrong with him. He's old but, reminds me of an annoying teenage boy.

This story was good. Coyote's tricks are wonderful and I enjoyed him getting the better of Atticus. I didn't always see them coming. I loved the first two books. Books three and four are not quit as good but, I still enjoyed them.world4annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06817404160839793407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-906347892149692059.post-19152780175061465682015-02-19T13:01:00.000-08:002015-02-19T13:01:36.450-08:00TBR Jar-Thursday

This challenge is hosted by NYC BookWorm. In this challenge you write out your TBR list or type it, then put them in a jar. When you are ready to read your next book, pull from the jar. I thought I would add the books I am working on for my TBR Pile Challenge into my jar.
I can't wait for this event. I have a huge TBR pile and I plan on dedicating this whole month to taking a chunk out of it. Actually this whole year I am making an extra effort to read my TBR books especially those books that I received as gifts. My family don't understand why I don't always read them right away. If you would like to join in this event click here or to the left on the picture.
My Wrap Up

I had high hopes for this Read-a-Thon. I started out super excited and ready to accomplish a lot. My goal was 7 books. I was sure I would meet it. The books I chose were easy reads and I only worked two days this week.

However, life got in the way. I had basketball games to attend. Homework and housework to help with and do. I took my daughters to hair appointments and shopping. I also threw a birthday party.

The last day however was the worst. I forgot to bring a book to the football party we were attending. I accidentally grabbed one I had finished and I ended up watching the football game. I did enjoy it. After the game all the kids went outside to play. My daughter bumped heads with her cousin and broke her nose. I spent the rest of my read-a-thon in the emergency room with out a book.

Total Pages Read-919
Books Finished-2

I didn't reach my goal but, I think I did alright with everything going on. How did you do? I hope you had fun and I will see you at the next Read-a-Thon.
